Reviews of Pysanky in the 21st Century by Way of Personal Correspondence to Helen Badulak |
| |
"Your book is absolutely stunning . . . It's wonderful your success has continued and especially to see your personal talent as an artist become an independent statement within the traditional designs . . . Certainly the book is going to make a big difference in the future of Pysanky as an art form."

"Thanks so much for the wonderful book, it's just GLORIOUS . . . Helen, you have always been my inspiration from the first time I saw one of your pieces, I've strove to be as good and then better than you . . . understand that you have given to me, the ultimate gift, that is to strive beyond my best and into another realm!"

"This is the most beautiful Pysanky book I have ever seen. I received it yesterday and was so delighted. I will have designs to make for the rest of my life. I have never seen so many beautiful eggs."

" This book is magnificent. The price only seemed steep until I saw it; in reality, it is a bargain. The pictures are breathtakingly beautiful, and the explicit step-by-step instructions from a master of the art are priceless. Whether you want to learn pysanky or just admire it at its best, this book is truly indispensable."

"You continue to astound me with the beauty and creativity you bring to the art. I am totally inspired again . . . I love everything from the way you invite people to try to excel at this art, to your personal anecdotes such as the time you drank the dye. Also I think it was great how you show people that even masters can have eggs that don't turn out."

"The book arrived yesterday and I've devoured it. I've read every word, twice; just can't keep my hands off the book . . . I'm not Ukrainian, but the Pysanky pictograms seem to be indigenous to nearly all the ancient peoples of the world, perhaps that is why there is such an international appeal towards this particular art form. I've noticed repeated motifs in works of ancient Greek, Egyptian, Phoenician, Celt, Maori, African, and American Indian works of art."

"PYSANKY IN THE 21st CENTURY by Helen Badulak is the first definitive book on Pysanky published that `has it all'... and then some! Oversized at 8¾"x11¼", hardcover, 230 pages in full color on quality stock, the book covers everything from the history, tools of a master craftsman, everything you ever needed to know about eggs, techniques, instruction, and the inspiration that propelled Helen Badulak to become the master artisan that she is. It's not your run of the mill `how-to' book on pysanky... it is a personal journey and understanding of both the woman and her art, written with a generous and open heart."
"The text flows easily and naturally, the book is organized and complete in every aspect, and the photography and illustration flawless and abundant on every page. If you buy only one book on Pysanky, this is the one to buy and make part of your permanent collection."

"I just received your new book. I was so thrilled, it is so beautiful, the eggs are fabulous, each page is more beautiful than the last . . . Your eggs are so very inspiring and I will enjoy the challenge of trying to do your advanced designs . . . I know this book will inspire all who create Pysanky and also will inspire others to try this wonderful art."

"This book is not only a '21st century' look at pysanky: it is the be-all and end-all of decorating eggs in the Ukrainian style. It will take you years to gain all the knowledge within it. This book also contains some history with endearing images of the Master decorator (more like artist) Helen Badulak. There are pages and pages of decorated eggs including pictures of her masterpieces as well as her 'Best of Show' eggs. You could buy this book as a coffee table piece and it would be well worth the money. But it is more: it imparts the wisdom of generations of pysanky makers. It is well worth the money."
